An editor’s perspective on making manga

Kazuhiko Torishima draws on his work at Weekly Shonen Jump and his experience discovering and nurturing manga artists to present the “Torishima Method.” The book frames manga-making through an editor’s perspective, connecting the craft of creating comics with the professional mindset the author says aspiring manga artists need. Its background also includes Torishima’s unusual link to Dr. Slump: Akira Toriyama modeled the character Dr. Mashirito on him, and the character’s name later became Torishima’s nickname. Together, these elements position the book as a guide to manga creation shaped by both editorial practice and the history behind its title.
