In this tenth volume, Light responds to Near’s suspicions by passing the Death Note to a devoted follower. The handoff changes the terms of his plan: unable to communicate with his successor directly, Light has to depend on that disciple’s commitment to Kira’s aims. The volume keeps its central conflict focused on control—over the notebook, the task force’s confidence, and the vision of a world Light wants to create.
