A bargain in the woods

A Little Red Riding Hood reimagining set in a world shaped by Appalachian superstition and fairy folklore, the novel places Avery Nash between the Fair Folk and the safety of her family and town. Captured by the Folk, Avery makes a bargain whose terms tie her fate to theirs—and place her humanity in question. Her service to the devious Captain of the Huntsmen adds a personal complication as hints of a curse and buried secrets surface. The first book in a dark fantasy duology, it brings together folklore, a dangerous pact, and a romance-coded fantasy premise.

Book overview

"The Curse of the Kingwood Witch" is the first in a dark fantasy duology that reimagines the tale of Little Red Ridinghood in a world inspired by Appalachian superstitions and fairy folklore, perfect for fans of "The Folk of the Air" and "The Shepherd King."

There are creatures in the woods around Mullica. Most call them the Fair Folk. Avery Nash knows better: they are all monsters, and she wants nothing to do with them. But when Avery is captured by the Folk, intent on draining her life for their own dark purposes, she strikes a damning bargain. Honoring that bargain will keep her and her family safe, but the price might just be her humanity, and the fate of the townspeople of Mullica lies in the balance. To complicate matters is Avery's captor, the frustrating and devious Captain of the Huntsmen, to whom she finds herself in the service of. As Avery's entanglement with the Folk and the captain intensifies, whispers of a curse and secrets of the past begin to swirl. Everywhere she looks, Avery is trapped. And secrets, much like bargains, come with a cost-especially in the woods.
