A teen’s life and the pull of addiction

Told in verse, *Crank* centers on Kristina Snow, a gifted high school junior whose life changes after she encounters crystal meth. The description traces the shift from an initially exhilarating experience to a struggle that reaches into her mind, sense of self, and everyday life. As the first book in a trilogy, it introduces substance use and addiction through a young person’s personal experience, giving the subject a distinctly adolescent frame.
