A birthday errand takes an unexpected turn

Corduroy sets out early to find Lisa a birthday present, mistaking something in the sky for a yellow balloon and chasing after it. When it disappears with the sunrise, he is lost, and the story turns toward finding his way back to his friend and choosing a gift. The board book brings this episode with the familiar teddy bear to a format intended for very young children, with illustrations described as using the scratchboard technique associated with Don Freeman’s earlier Corduroy books.
