AlbakiReads Editorial

A reference history of the world championships

Ryan Stevens’s volume organizes the history of the World Figure Skating Championships from the 19th century onward, with year-by-year results across all disciplines. Black-and-white photographs accompany records, trivia, and notable “firsts,” giving the book several ways to trace how the competition and the sport have changed over time. Its emphasis is on historical record and reference, rather than on a single athlete or event. The publisher also identifies a companion volume on the European Figure Skating Championships, which covers the continental stage.
