Dance competition meets mystery

A national dance contest in New York City gives this young adult story its competitive setting, but a disappearance shifts attention from the prize to the danger surrounding the dancers. Libby, C.C., and Brooke arrive as Chicagoland standouts; rumors, jealousy, blackmail, and the pursuit of fame complicate their trip. The blend of performing-arts competition and suspense puts ambition under pressure, with the central uncertainty changing from who will win to who is at risk.

Book overview

Beating the competition is one thing, eliminating it is another.

When Chicagoland's top-rated high school dancers, Libby, C.C., and Brooke, travel to New York City for the national Stairway to the Stars competition, touristy thrills and new romances are soon overshadowed by a chilling disappearance.

Rumors abound, and while much is uncertain, a few things are clear: jealousy, blackmail, and an insatiable desire for fame are at the root.

Now the question isn't who will win the competition, but who will survive it.
