Music, war, and the mysteries of the Spires

In this ninth volume, Luca’s wish to leave the battlefield and become a maestro remains entangled with the larger conflict surrounding the Spires. Following the siege of Mont Tombe and the confrontation with Akira, the Branched squad reaches Thermi, where a meeting with the Pontiff challenges Luca’s understanding of his ambition and brings the Spires’ origins and purpose into view. The volume connects Luca’s unusual ability to perceive sound with questions of power, inherited identity, and whether he and Zoe can shape a future beyond war. Its worldbuilding places ancient technological remnants at the center of a struggle between nations.
