A shinobi, a talking-animal gift, and a hidden spirit war

Jiro Azuma’s two defining inheritances—his shinobi lineage and his ability to communicate with animals—collide when he rescues Rago, a supernatural black cat. A fusion with a suspicious stray gives Jiro exceptional power and pulls him into a secret conflict involving ninjas and mononoke, powerful Japanese spirits. The setup links supernatural action to Jiro’s compassion for animals: the quality that draws him toward creatures also becomes entangled with the danger around him. As the first volume, it introduces that mix of animal communication, inherited shinobi identity, and hidden supernatural conflict.
