A dinosaur expert meets an unexpected hatchling

Della’s deep interest in paleontology shapes her friendship with Avery—and sets the stage for a surprising experiment with a high-tech dinosaur incubator. When an accident involving Avery’s sparkly jacket affects what hatches, Della’s expertise meets a prehistoric pet unlike the one she expected. Book overview

For fifth-grader Della, paleontology isn't just a hobby--it's her entire world. Della is proud to be a dinosaur expert, even if it means losing her only friend, Avery, who cares more about fashion than fossils.

When Della gets the chance to try out a secret high-tech dinosaur hatching device, she couldn't be more excited. But after Avery's pink, sparkly jacket gets stuck in the incubator lid, what comes out of the dino egg ends up being much more glamorous than carnivorous. . .

Even for an expert like Della, taking care of this unique prehistoric pet is going to require a little bit of help and lot of luck.
