Two brothers, one wrestling ambition

Set around a Midwest high school wrestling team, the novel centers on brothers Ron and Nick Castle, whose different strengths shape their approaches to competition. Ron is a gifted junior who reached the state title match the year before; his younger brother Nick is shy, works hard, and hopes to become a state champion. This Young Readers Edition retains the original storyline while adjusting some material described as too advanced or intense for younger readers and softening some wording. Wrestling provides the shared setting for a story about sibling contrasts, effort, and championship aspirations.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

Book overview

Award winning fiction - To Be The Best is the 2017 winner for "Best Characters" in the Red City Review book awards.

To Be The Best focuses on a Midwest high school wrestling team and follows the stories of two brothers in particular. Ron Castle is a high school junior and naturally gifted wrestler. He made it all the way to the state title match as a sophomore. Nick, Ron's younger brother, is a shy sophomore. He lacks Ron's raw talent but has a ton of heart and works hard day in and day out in pursuit of his dream of becoming a state champion.

The Young Readers Edition stays true to the original storyline while adjusting some sections which may be too advanced or intense for younger readers and softening certain wording choices.
