A new school year for Bat

Bixby Alexander Tam—Bat to those around him—is heading into fourth grade, where a new teacher, classroom, seating plan, and set of rules unsettle the familiar shape of school. The previous year’s class rabbit, Babycakes, had given Bat a place to visit when he needed a break; that detail makes the shift in routine especially clear. As the fourth book in Elana K. Arnold’s series about a boy on the autism spectrum, this installment centers on change at school and the supports that can help Bat navigate it.
