A high school track team faces a leadership gap

Green Ridge High’s long-standing track-and-field program has relied on Coach Bill Mallory, but his leave due to serious illness leaves the team with a caretaker unfamiliar with the sport. The novel centers on captain Artie Stewart and his teammates as they confront the question of how to continue without their coach’s guidance. Its young-adult sports premise places team responsibility and the challenge of carrying on a shared program at the heart of the story.
