Rainy-day play, one splash at a time

Rain keeps Ada and her animal friends indoors until she spots puddles—and turns the weather into an invitation to jump, kick, and splash. Mouse, Duck, Monkey, Lion, and Elephant join in, making shared play the center of this toddler-friendly story. The sequence moves from energetic puddle play to toweling off and snuggling under the covers, giving the rainy-day adventure a bedtime destination. Weather, movement, friendship, and the pleasure of getting messy shape the book’s simple arc, with the final contrast between splashing outside and settling in for the night providing a natural close.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Toddlers and preschoolers drawn to stories about rain, puddles, and play.
  • Families seeking a bedtime read that moves from active fun to getting cozy.
  • Young children who enjoy animal friends sharing an activity.

Book overview

As every toddler knows, rain means puddles. And when Ada shares her best techniques with her animal friends, they all get more than they bargained for!

It's raining hard, and little Ada and her pals are stuck inside. Until, that is, she spies some puddles and needs to put them to the test. "One, two, three . . . jump!" she cries. "One, two, three . . . kick! One, two, three . . . splash!" Soon Mouse, Duck, Monkey, and Lion want a go, too--and so does Elephant. "One, two, three . . . WATCH OUT!" Luckily, toweling off and snuggling under the covers is also fun! Bright colors, camaraderie, and amusing expressions make for a cozy bedtime read--one, two, three . . . good night!
