Adaire Carter has always had a curiosity about life. She finds joy in her work as a foster parent recruiter, but one case leads her to linger about her past. Because she too was adopted and as she grew older, she tries to piece together the truth about who she really is. Have her parents been keeping her real story a secret? Who is she? As she grows more invested in this case, she uncovers a horror of reality. She then meets Michael Bennett, a pediatrician and international recruiter. Over time, the two become close in their work and each other. They eventually fly to China to investigate more about Adaire's history. As they navigate their way through China realizing what had happened, they become more intimate. Did Michael know who Adaire was before she met him? Did he know her birth parents? Did he help her adoptive parents erase her past? As the echoes of her past call her name, Adaire will not rest until she discovers the truth and brings it to light.
