Scripture references have been standardized in modern format, and many abbreviations have been spelled out for greater understanding. Noah Webster's 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language is a work of great importance for modern readers who care about traditional values. The 1828 dictionary defines the language of these materials in the context of their era and thus becomes a valuable reference tool to enhance understanding. This new, compact edition is published with the same hope expressed by Webster himself: "I present it to my fellow citizens, not with frigid indifference, but with my ardent wishes for their improvement and their happiness; and for the continued increase of the wealth, the learning, the moral and religious elevation of character, and the glory of my country."
