Step into the forests and rivers of early New York and discover a world where adventure, history, and ancient wisdom meet.
Wandering Bear and His Wonderful Journey follows a curious young boy whose love of exploring often leads him far beyond where he is supposed to be. When Wandering Bear sets out across the land with his family, he begins a remarkable journey through the forests, streams, and villages of the Hudson Valley during the earliest years of contact between Native Americans and Dutch settlers.
Along the way he encounters mysterious beings, wise elders, new friends, and unfamiliar outsiders. Each experience teaches him something deeper about courage, responsibility, and the powerful connection between people and the natural world.
Blending magical storytelling with authentic history, this unique middle-reader novel offers young readers a rare window into Indigenous life in the Hudson Valley. Through Wandering Bear's adventures, readers also learn about traditional Native American foraging-how families gathered food, herbs, and medicine directly from the land.
