AlbakiReads Editorial

A 1545 German New Testament tradition

This edition presents Luther’s 1545 New Testament, described in the source as the final stage of revisions beginning with his September 1522 New Testament. The publisher’s account places the text within the history of German Bible printing and Protestant religious movements, noting its use by the Cansteinische Bibel Anstalt and its standing before later revisions. The description also advances a particular religious-historical interpretation, linking textual changes to church periods and German political history; those claims are part of the publisher’s framing. The packet gives little information about the edition’s translation or editorial apparatus beyond its title and historical positioning.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Those interested in Protestant Bible-printing history and religious interpretations of German history

Book overview

The last of seven purifications (Psalm 12:6-7) since Luther's September New Testament of 1522 ending in 1545, one year before Luther's death in 1546. This was the standard New Testament printed by the first Bible Society of the world, Cansteinische Bibel Anstalt in 1710, and the source of the Reformation, the first German missionary movement (Danish-Hallo mission by the Moravians under Zinzendorf), and the break away from the Dark Ages and from the German states away from the oppression of the Roman Church. It was the standard till the 1883 (Probebibel) revision, the equivalent of the English RV of 1884, later called the 1912 text. This brought to end the Philadelphia church period for the German body of Christ, and ushered in the Laodicean church period with Germany losing the 2nd 30 years war (1914-1945), and its sovereignty since 1945 to Rome via the EU.
