Reasoning beyond the rationalist framework
Jonathan Evans surveys research into the psychology of deductive reasoning and sets out an alternative theoretical framework to the rationalist approach that had shaped much of the field’s published work at the time. First published in 1982, the book offers a focused account of how deductive reasoning was studied and theorized within cognitive psychology. Its value as a guide is historical as well as conceptual: the description frames it as a review of research from its period, not as a statement of current consensus.
