A critical lens on how physical activity becomes public policy
Joe Piggin frames physical activity as a political question shaped by competing ideas, values, and visions of a more active society. Using critical analysis, the book interrogates commonly accepted assumptions surrounding exercise and activity promotion, connecting those assumptions to the policies built around them. Its stated aim is to open discussion of policy approaches that are both more effective and more socially just, making the volume less a general exercise guide than an examination of the debates behind public-health activity agendas.
Based on publisher information and book metadata.
Defining 'politics' as contests over ideas, values and visions about what a physically active society could be, this book uses critical analysis to challenge accepted truths about physical activity and therefore opens up a pathway to more effective, and more socially just, physical activity policy.
