Politics, conflict, and romance in Ethiopia

Baalu Girma’s Oromay brings political intrigue and a sweeping romance together through the perspective of a journalist caught up in a disastrous government campaign. Its pairing of public conflict with a personal love story gives the novel two linked concerns: the pressures of political events and the consequences they carry for individual lives. Presented here in an English translation, the book is identified in its description as a landmark work of Ethiopian literature.
