A compact musical adaptation of Saint-Exupéry’s classic

Ashley Webster’s score adapts Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince as a one-act children’s musical with original songs. The 50-minute script follows the small-planet traveler’s journey through the universe to Earth, where he encounters a fox and a pilot. Designed with staging flexibility in mind, it can be performed by 10 players when roles are double-cast and uses a single portable set piece, while allowing expansion for larger productions. The book’s emphasis is as much practical as literary: it presents a concise, mobile-ready musical version of the familiar tale.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Theater groups seeking a short, adaptable one-act musical
  • Music directors and performers looking for a small-cast production

Book overview

The Little Prince by Stimson [songs] and Webster [score] is an adaptation of Antoine de St. Exupery's children's classic. The script retains the sweetness and simplicity of the original, but with entirely original music. With a 50 minute run time, this one act musical can easily travel as it has 10 players [if double-cast] and just one portable set piece. Yet, the show can be expanded to accommodate a larger venue. This touching story about a child from a very small planet, traveling the universe, finally to visit earth and befriend a wise fox and a lonely pilot, is sure to warm the heart.
