Two ancient manuscript traditions in one English Bible

Matthew Simmons’s volume brings together the Old and New Testaments in English, framing them through two named manuscript sources: the Leningrad Codex for the Hebrew Masoretic text and the Codex Sinaiticus for the Greek biblical text. The description identifies the Leningrad Codex as a complete Hebrew Bible manuscript dated to 1008 or 1009, and notes that Sinaiticus contains most of the Greek Old Testament and the complete New Testament. It also emphasizes differences between the contents of the Sinaiticus and later scribal additions, making manuscript transmission part of the book’s subject alongside the biblical texts themselves.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Readers interested in English-language Bible editions presented through historical manuscript sources.
  • Those exploring the Leningrad Codex, the Codex Sinaiticus, or the transmission of biblical texts.

The Leningrad Codex (Latin: Codex Leningradensis [Leningrad Book]; Hebrew: כתב יד לנינגרד) is the oldest known complete manuscript of the Hebrew Bible in Hebrew, using the Masoretic Text and Tiberian vocalization. According to its colophon, it was made in Cairo in AD 1008 (or possibly 1009)

The Codex Sinaiticus is one of the most important biblical manuscripts in existence. It was handwritten in Greek over 1,600 years ago and is considered a critical resource for biblical scholarship. The manuscript includes the majority of the Greek Old Testament (Septuagint) and the complete New Testament. 1250 Years older than any other manuscript of the New Testament.

You will find Scriptures and not find Scriptures in the original Codex that were later added by the scribes that God, Son, and Spirit, never said....
