Book overview
Join twenty-five of the art world's greatest feminist icons as they throw a party that makes the gallery walls shake and the male gaze drop. They're tearing up the dance floor and taking down the Old Masters--literally. Judy Chicago sets the table for a feminist feast, Marina Abramovic drafts a manifesto, and a Guerrilla Girl swings wildly from a chandelier. Boldly illustrated by Laura Callaghan and packed with art historical wit, this is an electrifying tribute to women who didn't just make art--they made history.
Art lovers will revel in the references, while newcomers to feminist art will find a playful entry point into the subject. Puzzle fans get 1,000 pieces of richly detailed, rebellious chaos, and feminists of all ages will be drawn in by the subversive wit and energy.
The Great Feminist Art Party celebrates not only contemporary legends but also trailblazers who came before them. Painter and printmaker Mary Cassatt arranges a vase of sunflowers--a symbol of the American suffrage movement--while Christina Broom, the UK's first female press photographer, captures the scene. The timeline stretches further still, spotlighting Artemisia Gentileschi as she swaps the Old Masters for her own powerful retellings--art that shattered barriers and continues to inspire today.
Included with the puzzle is a concertina foldout featuring an introduction to feminism in art, twenty-five biographies, and a large reproduction of the jigsaw illustration with a detailed key.
