A poetic Bible-story allegory with activities

A town lives under the threat of Foe, a lion whose intimidating roar hides a lack of real bite. A heroic King arrives to expose the secret and rescue the residents, framing the story around the biblical image of an adversary as a roaring lion from 1 Peter 5:8. The book presents Jesus as King, defender, and rescuer, and uses the town’s encounter with Foe to introduce that religious idea for children. After the story, a question-and-answer section invites discussion of favorite parts and lessons, followed by a coloring section. Together, the narrative and activities give the book a story-plus-discussion format.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Children ages 9–12 exploring Bible stories and Christian ideas
  • Families or groups wanting a story with follow-up discussion questions
  • Children who enjoy coloring activities alongside a story

Book overview

Foe, The Toothless Lion is a poetic story about a King who comes to rescue a town from a mean old lion who takes pleasure in terrorizing all who live there, bringing about constant fear and trepidation. He steals from the unsuspecting by lying in wait and pouncing as soon as they get distracted. Daily, he delights in intimidating them all, and he's been getting away with it- until now, that is. Foe has been keeping a HUGE secret! His bite is not as tough as his roar because he has no teeth, and no real power at all! Little does he know, he's about to be confronted by the heroic King who is ready to reveal his big secret to everyone, and save the town from his bullying, once and for all!

Who is Foe, you ask? For starters, a foe is an enemy, an opponent, and an adversary! And 1 Peter 5:8 lets you know that "your adversary, the devil, walks about as a roaring lion seeking who he may devour...". This creative, poetic story captures this scripture in a way that any reader, young or old, will understand and enjoy. And it doesn't end there! After the story, this book contains a Q & A section where kids can discuss their favorite parts and what they learned, followed by a surprise coloring book to enjoy!
