AlbakiReads Editorial

A bedtime rhyme built around counting

After bedtime preparations, five monkeys turn their room into a jumping spot, with one mishap after another interrupting the fun. The repeating rhyme and countdown give the familiar nursery-song premise a clear pattern for sharing aloud, while the padded board-book format is suited to small hands. Eileen Christelow’s story centers on a simple contrast: the monkeys’ energetic mischief and Mama’s attempts to settle them down. Counting, repetition, and bedtime routines shape the book’s appeal as a read-together choice for very young children.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Families looking for a rhyming bedtime read-aloud for toddlers.
  • Young children beginning to encounter counting and repeated language.
  • Shoppers seeking a padded board book for little hands.
