Mathematical problems and how they’re developed

Volume I brings together two complementary strands: a selection of problems associated with mathematics competitions and contributions examining how problems are developed across specialized areas of competition and recreational mathematics. The combination gives the volume both a hands-on dimension, through problems to work on, and a closer look at the practice of creating them. Its chapters were written by participants in the 8th Congress of the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions, held in Austria in 2018, connecting the collection to an international gathering focused on mathematics competitions.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • People who enjoy tackling original mathematics problems for enjoyment or skill-building.
  • Competition problem developers and those interested in recreational mathematics.
  • Readers curious about mathematics competitions as part of teaching and mathematical activity.
