When ALLIE McCLEARY, a young woman struggling to find happiness and a sense of purpose in her mundane life, is pulled into a dark alley and brutally attacked, she is reluctantly rescued by an eccentric older man, JOSEPH BECKEMEYER, who wields a silver tongue and uses his supernatural abilities to save her life. Frustrated with himself for getting involved, Joseph is compelled to wipe Allie's memories of the event in order to keep his alien existence a secret from the human race.
A few days later while making a bank deposit for her sister's shop, Allie is taken hostage during a robbery. The culprits are from one of the city's feuding mob organizations, and in a twist of irony, a member of their ranks turns out to be the very man she'd only started dating earlier in the week. Joseph ends up saving her life, yet again, but in the process, he inadvertently causes Allie's painful memories of their first encounter to resurface.
To stop the torturous symptoms of her relapse, Allie agrees to help Joseph expose and eliminate a group of alien bounty hunters who are currently tracking him down to acquire the very source of his paranormal abilities-the rare mystical crystals surgically grafted to his bones. As the unlikely pair become increasingly entangled in each other's lives, Allie learns about the darker side of humanity and is forced to live two very different lives simultaneously: the mundane, safe existence of working for her sister, and the secret, dangerous one with Joseph, not only risking her own life, but also the lives everyone she knows and loves.
