A missing bat and a story to finish

Eva’s class is preparing stories for a visiting author when her pet bat, Baxter, goes missing. The search becomes closely tied to Eva’s writing: she can think only about how much she misses him, while her friends help look for him and she puts up missing posters. The two concerns—finding Baxter and completing her story before the visit—give this sixth Owl Diaries volume its central thread. Presented as an illustrated early chapter book in Scholastic’s Branches line, it pairs a school writing project with a friendship-centered search.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Newly independent readers seeking an illustrated early chapter book.
