Sacred images in Ethiopian Christian tradition

Rodas Abebe’s book surveys sacred images, with particular attention to depictions of the Virgin Mary and the traditions associated with them. The description points to a table listing 245 types of Marian images commemorated across the months of the year, alongside accounts connecting images with longstanding histories and miracles. It also discusses the Shroud of Turin and a tradition concerning an image of Mary attributed to Saint Luke, including the blessing associated with it. Together, these examples frame the book as a guide to the stories, devotional significance, and interpretation surrounding Christian images.

Good fit for readers who enjoy

  • Adults interested in Ethiopian Christian traditions and sacred art
